A Collaboration Between Boston Pizza and TANSI Society / iSHOW
Two visionary leaders—Gus from Boston Pizza and Jason from TANSI Society—have come together with a shared passion: building a lasting legacy rooted in community, inclusion, and empowerment.
Their paths may have been different, but their purpose is united. Gus has long been known for his commitment to building community through his Boston Pizza locations, fostering local spirit, and supporting charitable initiatives. Jason, through the TANSI Society and iSHOW, has championed adaptive sports, breaking barriers and creating inclusive spaces for athletes of all abilities.
Together, they are proud to introduce The Gus Cup, a wheelchair basketball tournament designed to showcase the best of both worlds: the community-driven heart of Boston Pizza and the transformative power of adaptive sports through iSHOW.
About the Event
The inaugural Gus Cup will feature a spirited wheelchair basketball competition between three Boston Pizza teams—two from St. Albert and one from Morinville. Taking place on July 26, 2025, this event is more than a tournament—it’s a celebration of leadership, inclusion, and what happens when communities come together with purpose.
What the Gus Cup Represents
- Legacy: Honoring the contributions of Gus and Jason, who have each built something lasting and impactful in their communities.
- Community Engagement: A chance for Boston Pizza staff, supporters, and customers to rally around a cause that brings people together.
- Inclusion and Awareness: A powerful platform to highlight adaptive sports and the importance of accessibility in athletics and beyond.
Through this event, we hope to inspire a ripple effect—one that elevates collaboration, supports inclusion, and strengthens community ties across Alberta.
6-Team Double Elimination Bracket Format:
Winners’ Bracket: All teams start here. After each match, the winner advances in the winners’ bracket, while the loser moves to the losers’ bracket.
Losers’ Bracket: Teams get a second chance here. A second loss results in elimination from the tournament.
Championship Round: The final match pits the winners’ bracket finalist against the losers’ bracket finalist. If the losers’ bracket team wins the first game, a second “if necessary” game is played to determine the champion, ensuring that a team must lose twice to be eliminated.
